Nose Plastic
Surgery.

Welcome to the Department of Plastic Surgery of the healthcare facility Lékařský dům Praha 7.

Rhinoplasty

The actual operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia. If only minor corrections of the soft part of the nose are done, only local anaesthesia may suffice.

The operation is performed by access from the nostrils, so no external scars are left. For this reason, it is a very complex and demanding surgery.

A good result of the surgery depends, among other things, on the elasticity and type of skin of the nose. The skin has sufficient elasticity until about 40 years of age, but it is very individual and does not mean that the nose cannot be operated on later.

The operation usually takes 1 to 2 hours.
Nasal correction is completed by fixing the nose with a plaster plate and tamponade of the nostrils.

After the operation, the client is hospitalized at the clinic for one or two days, depending on the extent of the operation. The nasal tamponade is removed 2 or 3 days later. During these days the patient must breathe only through the mouth.

WHO ARE THE CANDIDATES

The operation is suitable for anyone who wants to improve their appearance, especially for those who have a realistic idea of the shape of their nose.

The operation should not be performed until the development and growth of the individual is completed. In men it is around the age of 18, in women it can be earlier, around the age of 16.

The actual skin type of the nose affects the healing and scarring of the subcutaneous tissue. Oily, thick and porous skin always has a greater risk of scarring and is less adaptable to the new shape of the nose.

BEFORE THE SURGERY

The first important step before the surgery is a consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon, who explains everything to the client in detail and recommends him/her the most suitable procedure.

In particular, it is necessary to warn clients of a change in facial expression, which many of them are not aware of.

The next step is a preoperative examination, which determines whether the client is medically fit to undergo the surgery.

    Postoperative Care

For the first week, the patient should rest and frequently apply cold eye compresses. Adequate fluid intake is also very important, as the oral mucosa dries rapidly.

Swelling of the eyelids and subcutaneous bruising are also among the postoperative effects and disappear within 2 to 3 weeks.

It is not advisable to blow your nose for the first 10 days after removing the tamponade. However, it is necessary to clean the nose several times a day with damp cotton swabs.

The plaster plate is replaced on the 5th to 7th day after the surgery and is removed 14 days after the surgery. During the following month the patient needs to put it into the nose only overnight.

The patient may feel a stuffy nose for a long time, which is caused by swelling of the nasal mucosa. Minor swellings can persist for weeks or months.

Healing of the nose is a long-term matter; the nose fully stabilizes about a year after the operation.

Although this is a relatively long-term healing process, it does not exclude the patient from everyday life, as they can get involved in everyday activities and work rhythm after removing the plaster.

    Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions? We have answers.

Is it possible to get rid of the dark circles underneath my eyes?

Lower eyelid surgery is used in order to remove the dark circles underneath the eyes.

For this procedure, a personal consultation is required.

The lower eyelid surgery can either be performed in a classic way or with a laser. Although the laser is more modern and quite gentle, it can not be used in every situation.

What is the best time to have the protruding ears of a child surgically repaired?

It is recommended for pre-school kids to undergo this procedure, as it is less painful for them.

In children up to 10 years of age, this procedure is covered by the health insurance company.

Do you also use galvanic iron in order to treat the skin?

    Yes, we do.

Galvanic iron is one way you can keep your ageing skin in shape without having to undergo surgery. It rejuvenates the skin, smooths wrinkles, revitalises the scalp and smooths the whole body.

I have acne scars and and sore holes on my face. Can they be removed?

Acne scars on the face usually extend into the deeper layers of the skin and only surgery can improve the condition.

Mechanical sanding is used first, shallower scars and previously sanded scars are then softened by surface laser evaporation of the skin surface.

Small areas can be treated on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia, for larger areas a short general anaesthesia is required.

The healing time is about 10 to 12 days.

If the skin is in a very bad shape it can be improved by repeated laser procedures at intervals of 6 months.

Which plastic surgeries are covered by health insurance?

Ear correction for children younger up to 10 years of age.
